Did you have an auto accident? Maybe you your home or property was damaged? Or some accident happened at your business?
Whichever the issue, you might need to file an insurance claim. Here are some useful steps that can help:
-
If you or someone got hurt, call the police and seek medical attention. Your health and safety is priority.
-
Secure the area to keep from anyone else getting hurt or causing another accident.
-
Take pictures and or video of what happened.
-
Make an accurate record of accident. Right down the time and info on how the accident happened as exact as you remember. Do not speculate or assume. Don't ever take blame, just state the facts.
-
If there are any witnesses that saw accident, ask for their information (name, phone number, email). In certain situations, when the other person chooses to lie, a witness can help your claim.
-
When there was another person was involved in the accident, you will need to exchange information. Gather information such as: name, address, phone, email, their insurance info, driver license info, and vehicle registration (if vehicle accident).
-
If police arrives at scene, make sure to state only the facts, if you are asked a question you don't have answer to, just say you are unsure. Right down police name, badge number, and report number.
